Tracey Hooper
Profile
I am a science editor, writer, and biologist who specializes in environmental issues, such as:
- biodiversity
- species at risk
- forestry
- grassland ecology
- fisheries research
- marine planning
- water management
- agricultural best management practices
- environmental impact assessments
I have an M.Sc., am a Registered Professional Biologist (Ret), and have more than 20 years' work experience, which means I provide my clients with a strong science background, commitment to professionalism, and knowledge of a wide range of subjects. Consequently, my list of clients is diverse: it includes federal and provincial government agencies, NGOs, academia, industry, the private sector, and online journals.
But it's not all about stuffy science. I enjoy working as a team with authors to help them bring out the best in their writing and tailor it to the needs of their audience. My respectful approach, attention to detail, commitment to quality, and sense of humour have been appreciated by both experienced authors and those who dread the writing process.
The following have been some of my favourite editing projects:
- Proceedings of the Species at Risk 2004 Pathways to Recovery Conference —140 papers presented at an international conference
- The Grasslands of British Columbia—a 500-page book on grassland ecology written for the Grasslands Conservation Council of B.C.
- Planning for Biodiversity—A Guide for Farmers and Ranchers—a user-friendly guide for agricultural producers interested in benefitting their operations by managing for biodiversity
- Pluralism, Resilience, and the Ecology of Survival: Case Studies from the Pamir Mountains of Afghanistan—a fascinating article written for the online journal Ecology and Society
